I have been preparing for my intended major, Computer Science, since I was 8
years old. It was then when my passion for computer programming and robotics
started, and it still burns bright. Since
then I
received formal computer science education and participated in regional and world
robotics competitions. At my first high school, I was a programmer on the robotics
team that went to the FIRST
World Championships,
after having won the Regional. I also brought about the first 24-hour hackathon
(code fest) by requesting funds from the Board of Education and private companies.
At my second high school, I participated
in MIT’s
Zero Robotics International Space Station Virtual Challenge. Out of
thousands of teams world-wide, ours won the Championship Award and our code was
actually used in space. At the
Air Force Association
sponsored
Cyber Patriot competition, the middle school team I mentored won 3rd place.
I was lead programmer on the FIRST robotics team.
In
college.
I was Moorpark College’s Computer Science Club’s Activity Organizer, I
was in charge of coordinating a
hackathon on
campus. For the last three years, I held programming-related summer
internships—one at imFORZA in
El Segundo, CA, and two in Tel Aviv, Israel, with Navin,
a start-up
company, where I was promoted to
supervise two others last summer. Over the years, I learned many computer
languages, and have extensive experience in C++, Java, JavaScript, C#, RobotC,
NXTG, CSS, HTML, and Computer-Aided Design
(CAD) programming and 3D printing. Next semester I plan to take Linear
Algebra, Differential Equations, Physics III, and Engineering M20 (Electricity
Engineering Fundamentals).
Not
only am I interested in computer science as a career, but I enjoy promoting
STEM technology to youths. I volunteered as a mentor/coach with high school
robotics teams, two of which went to the
FIRST World Championships, and refereed at middle-school VEX robotics
competitions. I also enjoy travelling, making, hanging out, and playing video
games with friends, I can’t wait to
continue onto
a 4-year institution, complete my degree and start contributing to the
community and society at large.
I am currently working on my senior project having to do with finding items in a store.
I was the activity organizer for the computer science club at Moorpark College. We were working on hosting our own hackathon there in April. I received my certification for SolidWorks, as well.
Navin is a indoor navigation startup company that has an Android and IOS
application that helps users find where they are trying to go to inside of a building, such as a
mall. I manged two other
interns
building a website for their
mappers to help them design the layouts for the buildings and the locations for users to later
learn where they have to go. I also, worked with our CEO, to make sure everything was on
track.
